Happy First Day of Summer!
Boy did we need it here in Seattle. It has been pouring down rain, dreary and all of my poor Peony buds have wilted and fallen off before getting the chance to open into the beautiful blooms I adore. But no longer!
This morning the sun was shining at 6am and it's supposed to get up near 80 degrees and let me tell you, us Seattle-ites are doing the happy dance!
To me, Summer means waking up to the music of birds chirping outside my bedroom window. Having dinner and cocktails out on our deck until the wee hours of the night. Celebrating friends and family with barbecues and bonfires. Fresh fruit and flowers from the local Farmers Markets. Guacamole and margaritas on the patio of our favorite Mexican joint at lunch. And most importantly to me, it means happy people wherever you go.
What does summer mean to you?

ReplyDeleteSummer means we get to spend more time in the great outdoors with family and friends. We can cook outside, eat outside and play games or go swimming. The sky is the limit if we use our imaginations as a resource for things we can enjoy outdoors. I love summer.
ReplyDeletesummers means sweatin' more on daily walks and being able to get outdoors a lot. But it's toooo hot here in Texas this year!
ReplyDeleteSummer is happiness...family cookouts...my little dog chasing butterflies and lightning bugs...finding a nest in a tree and checking it daily till one day magically there are baby birds...wonderful, mind-clearing yard work...sitting on the back deck, by the firepit, having talks with my daughter...<3
ReplyDeleteSummer for me is a more laid back time of gardening at my farm with my cat and llama giving constructive critiques or outright treat begging, sitting on the deck and listening to the breeze in the trees and taking the time for healthier choices in meals and cooking wonderful fresh dinners! I love to cook for myself and friends and create new receipes as I go along! (Do try the watermelon margarita on the watermelon ice pop tag with this site. The reserved juice goes fast! Any tequila will work...)
ReplyDeleteSummer means my small house gets an extra room- the patio! Yay for barbequing on the patio, more space, and Vitamin D.
ReplyDeleteSummer means having fun going places with the children... without having to worry about them missing school.
ReplyDeleteSummer means family fun, pool fun, family bbq's, outings, hiking. Summer means anything you could do outside especially in the evenings.
ReplyDeleteSummer means the tinkle of ice cubes in every drink at night, big pitchers of sangria for the grown ups and good ole Kool-Aid (sweetened with a little simple syrup) for the kids, shucking bushelfuls of corn, picking mountains of blueberries, the smell of lighter fluid and charred burgers 'n' dogs, the "chicka chicka chicka RRRRRRRRRRTTTT" of sprinklers on lawns, the sounds of kids in the street playing until well after dark, more smells like coconut oil and Off and chlorine; all the good things that both bring back and make summer memories!
ReplyDeleteSummer is time to be with my friends and family at the river, pool, creek or just hanging out grilling up some wonderful food. Being in Culinary school has really opened my eyes to some great new foods and different ways to prepare my old time favorites. I love summer!!
ReplyDeleteSummer means the smells of freshly mowed grass, sunblock and the barbecue. And lots of smiles!
ReplyDeleteSummer means sleeping in with my son, and a few lazy days with the ac on super-high. Summer means weekly outings to the farmers market, and a try at a garden with my not-so green thumb.
